The One Right Choice in This Election

‘Tis the season to be jolly

Fa la la la la,

La la la . . .

Bah!

Humbug!

Some are thinking it. Some are feeling it. Some are saying it.

This season, opinions are flying faster than migrating birds.

What the hell is happening to us?

(Yeah, go ahead.  Raise your eyebrows. Get upset. I said “hell” on purpose. Read on.)

I never thought I’d see the sort of cannibalism I’m seeing these days.  People pulling apart people, limb by limb. The seething. The sneering. The slandering. The sickening bickering. The dividing and conquering over political opinion. In my opinion, HELL is having a hay-day inciting violence in thought, word, and deed today.

As if such violence to a soul is going to sway for good?

Or save us from bad?

Trump?

Hillary?

Another?

Sinners.

All.

And what about that media, the men and women behind the curtain blowing smoke in our eyes, clouding our minds, polluting our hearts?

Fair?  Balanced?  Unbiased?

Don’t bet your life!

As for me, I’m done with the broad brush strokes of judgment coming from all the commentary on both sides, written and spoken. I’m doing my own “la la la la la” with my fingers in my ears. I’ve read enough, heard enough, had enough.

So here we are on the Wednesday of the last presidential debate. I will watch, painful as it might be.

And I will vote. I always vote.

But I will not jump into the slimy pit that slithers with lies and stinks to high heaven of gross ungodliness. And I’m not just talking the two nominated presidential candidates. I’m talking all of us.

Must we keep sinking poison?

Regardless of how we all vote (or not), regardless of who becomes our next president, regardless of all other elected positions, I’m pleading for us—we, the people—to embrace and model godliness.

Speak truth. In love.  So help us God.

I believe, regardless of what happens November 8, we can still hold hope and work for good. Because the Leader I love is our Highest Hope and has all of our good in mind.

So, can we stop pointing fingers, wagging tongues, and rolling eyes?  Instead, can we pray for ourselves and each other that GOD be our vision instead of a MAN or a WOMAN and all those on a particular bandwagon?

If we lay down our desire for a political savior, we might see the True Savior we already have. Then, we might vote more in accordance with HIS heart instead of our own, so prone to wander when the waters of fear rise and threaten to drown. When we’re all flailing in the same churning surf, wouldn’t it be wise to grab hold of the life ring being offered to all?

Seems to me, this is our One Right Choice in this election.

See to it that none of you has a sinful, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God. But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called Today, so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness.

Hebrews 2:12-13

We wait in hope for the LORD; he is our help and our shield. In him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in his holy name. May your unfailing love rest upon us, O LORD, even as we put our hope in you.

Psalm 33:20-22
